Wow what an open day! So much fun had by all with the weather turning on an absolute treat of a day. With face painting, bouncy castle (with accurate water blasters at the ready), dunking of a few coaches (and well many kids) and a expert BBQ cooked up with thanks to Weir's butchers for their very tasty sausages, what wasn't to like for our annual club open day. Well done to our prize winners for longest kick in each age group - those inflatable goals were a real treat to aim for! It was great to see both new and familiar faces come down and enjoy and kick off the start to the 2021 footy season! Can't wait to see you all back as we get season 2021 underway soon!

The 12th annual football and cultural carnival between Dalkeith Nedlands junior football club and the Wiluna Martu Eagles continued to build on the strong tradition of the past 11 years. The even t was coordinated expertly by the Murlpirrmarra Connection was conducted from the 2nd of October to 5th October this year which added a new stop to play Mount Magnet on the way up to Wiluna as a new addition to the packed 2020 agenda. It started with the DNJFC players and families arriving at 7:30am at Melvista for the long bus ride to Mount Magnet. This first evening saw the team arrive, pitch their tents and head off to the ground for a warm up to the game against the Mount Magnet Miners. As this was the inaugural game it was a tight affair all evening with the Miners running out as 1 point winners. A BBQ dinner followed with a great opportunity for the two sides and their families to mingle and share a few stories. From here, Saturday morning we were up early to continue on our journey to Wiluna. Saturday after arriving and settling in to our accomodation at Wiluna mining we headed to the rec centre for the afternoon's activities. These activities included DNJFC/Wiluna buddy questionnaire, cultural cook up and painting. The evening sundowner included meeting artists from the Wiluna Tjukurba Gallery which rounded out a great evening in readiness for the big game the next day. unday came with all excitement a big game game brings. After a quick breakfast we headed off to the oval to warm up for the game. After a slow start with the Martu eagles exploding out of the blocks, Dalkeith Nedlands began to claw back the deficit. The game tightened up and in the end the Dalkeith Nedlands team ran out winners by 3 points being only the third win in the past 12 games. The real winners here though were the kids and their families. The bonds shared with the mutual love of our great AFL game have been known to continue for many years. Stay tuned for the next installment in 2021 where Dalkeith Nedlands will play host to the Wiluna Martu Eagles in Perth which will no doubt be another exciting chapter in this rich tradition between the two teams.
