I hope it has been a successful start to the New School Year. I am pleased to say that registrations are now open for the upcoming 2018 season.

Our Auskick program this year runs for kids aged from Year 2 to Kindy and will run at 9am on Sunday’s at Melvista oval from the first Sunday in May. Our Auskick program provides a fun community environment for the kids to learn the required skills and also provides a relaxing social environment for families with a coffee van and sausage sizzle each Sunday.

Our Junior football sides will be commencing their home and away fixtures from Sunday April 29 until late August. We field sides from Year 3 to Year 6 in the modified junior competitions, and also have club members involved in teams all the way to year 10.

I hope everyone has had a fantastic summer and that the new school year has started smoothly. With the start of the school year also comes time to register for footy.

The season starts on Sunday April 30th for all ages and it promises to will be a huge year.

Kids from Kindy to Year 2 should register in our Auskick program. This is designed to introduce the kids to the skills of Australian rules football in a fun environment on Sunday mornings.  The sessions are conducted at Melvista Oval in Nedlands (next to the golf course) and  run from 9am to 10.15am from April 30 until the middle of August. A typical session runs includes some skill excercises, and a modified (non contact) and inclusive game amongst their year group. We will also organise some matches against other Auskick clubs during the year.

This year, the Year 3’s will participate in a full home and away season. They play under modified rules where there is limited tackling and a focus on ball handling and movement.  Year 3’s can enter in the “Auskick” registration link.

We will field full Year 4, 5 and 6 teams this year in our Junior club and would love to see all our players back from last year’s teams, and we also welcome any new enrollments.

We will enter teams in The Year 7 and Year 9 competitions as  “Western Tigers” teams which is a joint venture with our neighboring club Subiaco. These age groups play on the larger ovals with a premiership table and finals.

There is so much to look forward to at the footy club this year, not to mention the great opportunity to play with your friends from your own area.

In what has become an annual tradition, our year 6 team visited Melbourne during August. The weekend was full with 3 AFL games at the MCG, a visit to the Australian Sports Museum and the annual match against Glen Iris Junior Football Club. A walk on the MCG at the end of one of the games was a great highlight.

Thanks to Dale Harris for his work in coordinating this trip, and also to the Glen Iris Junior Football Club for there hospitality on the day.
