With registrations opening this week for the new season it is an opportune time to revisit some of the events from last year. Photo’s include shots from our Year 6 trip to Melbourne where we played against Glen Iris JFC, our closing day and also a year 3 game on a sunny day at Melvista…
During August the club had a visit from Matthew Pavlich and Ed Langdon from the Fremantle Football Club. They hosted a midweek training night for the Year 3 to Year 6 sides where the kids had access to invaluable tips and feedback from elite AFL players. There was also a very entertaining Q&A session at the end of the night.
Thanks to the Fremantle Football club for making Matthew and Ed available exclusively for our club.
In what has become an annual tradition, our year 6 team visited Melbourne during August. The weekend was full with 3 AFL games at the MCG, a visit to the Australian Sports Museum and the annual match against Glen Iris Junior Football Club. A walk on the MCG at the end of one of the games was a great highlight.
Thanks to Dale Harris for his work in coordinating this trip, and also to the Glen Iris Junior Football Club for their hospitality on the day.
On the June Long Weekend, 16 lucky players (and a parent) from our Year 4 to Year 9 junior sides flew to Wiluna for the June long weekend. The weekend was a great learning opportunity for our boys from the western suburbs of Perth with a number of activities around sharing learnings and interacting with the local indigenous kids from Wiluna and surrounds, with the back drop of a common interest in football.
The annual game was played between Dalkeith Nedlands and the Wiluna Martu Eagles and in a move from tradition, the teams were split evenly between all players from both clubs. The team playing under the Wiluna Martu Eagles jumpers won on the day, but the real winner was the experience the boys had over the weekend.
In a terrific start to the 2016 season, the DNJFC Auskick was invited to play Auskick games at half time at Domain Stadium in the West Coast Eagles vs Collingwood game in early May.
56 lucky kids from Pre Primary to Year 3 got to play on the big stage in front of a sell out crowd and these are memories that will stay with the kids for many years.
