The annual club fundraiser was held last Saturday night at the Monte Carlo Casino (aka the Cap S) with over 80 parents and friends of the club in attendance.
The Social Committee did a fantastic job. A huge thanks to Jules Blair, Mel Braddock and Angela Gelavis (my wife xxx) for all their efforts in putting the event together. They spent countless hours “encouraging” people to come along and with the help of the team managers and coaches (Brendan Cocks, Ian Dey, Vivi Renner, and Stu Lester) sold over 100 tickets.
The Girls including our registrar Lucy Leiner also did an amazing job transforming the Cap S into a swanky Casino for the night with some clever decorations the most popular being the rubber dice.
A big thanks to the committee for organising the items for the silent auction, Garry Martin came through again with some rare memorabilia including a Lillee Thompson signed photo that had some fierce bidding right to the end of the silent auction. Jeff “the Voice” Braddock once again boomed out the live auction to great effect and James Komninos and Ken Craig took out the major items (tickets to the next Freo Eagles derby and a cricket bat sign by the legendary Adam Gilchrist), thanks to both for their support.
But the key to the night was our Casino theme, the poker tournament was disturbingly dominated by the glamourously frocked up mums who attended. They all looked dressed to kill and they did, with the eventual champion Alida Warman taking home the championship trophy.
The boys gravitated to the Black Jack table where they had a crack at taking on the committee who were dealing the cards. Yours truly dominated the early running with many accusations of aces hidden in various part of my anatomy. The punters were relieved when Brendan our Auskick Co-ordinator took over and proceeded to lose so badly that Tony Abbott was thinking about introducing another levy to fill the hole. Thankfully Garry managed to deal his way out of the mire. John Love won the prize for the black jack but we did miss his better half Jo last night, a formidable auction bidder (she doesn’t like to lose – which makes for great auction results :-))
All in all another legendary Dalkeith Nedlands Annual Fundraiser, with the proof being in the photo’s and bleary eyes at football this morning.
Lastly I would like to thank all the parents and friends of the club who contributed to the evening through either donations or buying tickets, we raised over $8000. The club is incredibly active in terms of the level of coaching it provides from the Kidz n Sport Auskick through to the professional coaching in years 4 to 8. We also put on 2 major free family fun days at the start and end of the season.
We have awesome sponsors in TM Realty our Principal Sponsor, Lawley’s Bakery (who supplied all our warm-up shirts) and Lo Zucherro but it is important everyone understands that the club is run by parent volunteers (we do not have any paid committee members or admin staff) putting in their personal time to ensure our kids have a close knit club to play football at and that we rely on parents to help out where ever possible.
Volunteer help and financial support is vital to the future of the club.
We ARE the original Eagles!!!
